We open Version>05 at the unusual and notorious art/space complex in Wicker
Park, sometimes known as The Compound and comprised of Heaven Gallery, buddY,
and Highschool. Two floors of spaces, the trackside roof, and the sidewalks
will be our venues for the evening. The opening program features performance,
installations, exhibition, videos, food (provided by Rodan), drink, music,
and registration. Visitors will be able to get an orientation of the festival
program and get a glimpse of the diversity of works featured at this year’s
version. Arrive early for Korean Polish Bar B-Q. Sign up for a registration
packet, pass, or orient yourself to the full program. Beverages served.

Installations and Performances by: Ghost Appeaser, The Cost of Free, My Fairy
Prince, Heather Vernon, and Lonetree.
Lonetree is a performance art group doing what they call "Noise Theater" named
after an Apsaroke Native American, but in namesake only.
The Cost of Free by Astra Price is an installation of 30 faceless George
Bush-like piñatas. The piñatas, stuffed with goodies, will be shown with
the story of their acquisition and importation to the US. The exhibition will
close with a finale of piñata games.
My Fairy Prince is anti-Universe space music (Randall Bailey is My
Fairy Prince)
David Marine is evoking music for theramin and small orchestra.
Buddy spaces

The gallery hosts installations and audio transmissions
An installation by Steven Eichhorn will frame the series of performance programs
at buddy during the week.
Installations and Performances by: Ghost Appeaser, NPR, Organge
Drink, Le Bande Sans Fin, EE, DJs Pooper and Logan Bay.
San Francisco-based Neighborhood Public Radio (NPR)
will broadcast their mission to the denizens of Chicago using Version>05
as a platform to transmit locally and nationally produced FM radio programs.
Ghost Appeaser by Matthew
Steinke and Bert Stabler is a performance of a video game demonstration
in which the two players portray ghosts in various states of torment. The
players operate animatronic puppets of distorted humanoid figures intended
to represent children. The performance uses micro-controlled toy parts,
ambient video and sound elements.
Orange Drink is electonic action.
La Bande Sans Fin consists of dozens of hi/lo-fi gizmos,
interconnections
and feedback loops, which David Blum and David Zerlin coax into simultaneous
song and projected image. The rich sound is sometimes texturally ambient,sometimes
heavily structured and rhythmic – a playfully constructed experience
woven together from audio-visual shards that reflect their surroundings.
Environmental Encroachment (EE)
is a group of performers who combine costumed a carnivalesque marching
band with a live multimedia stage performance consisting
of projections, shadow puppetry, backpack puppets, live sound and theatrics.
orange drink is one person with an acoustic guitar, laptop, sampler, and
other instruments creates a soundscape, tells stories, plays songs, challenges
the
audience. sound will be broadcast via amplifier with use of instrument
cords and a microphone.
DJ Pooper is
a pretty smiling cholita who gives you fuzzy dance pants.
Logan Bay is Chicago’s mash up and dance floor hero.
And special guest from Michigan. :)
Mechanisms
Heaven 1550 N Milwaukee Ave 2nd floor
This exhibition is composed of seven artists from NYC, S. Carolina, Minneapolis,
and Chicago who examine the term mechanism through different visions
and mediums. Featuring work by: Andrew Dunnill, Andrew Hurst, Kathleen
Judge,
Duk Ju L.
Kim, Rollin Marquette, John Salhus, Raha Raissnia.

In The Weather, self guided walks/Chicago
The In the Weather booklet is the first stage of an ongoing project by
Melinda Fries (ausgang.com) and Bonnie Fortune (Free Walking) concerning
self guided walks of both local and international areas. This In the
Weather booklet is specific to Chicago and includes 16 self guided walking
tours of the Chicago area. The booklets will be distributed free
around the city.

Version>05 Video Selections
a special selection of our favorite videos on the roof of Heaven.
Featuring: 4x4 destination chicago 2005
4x4 is a regular film and video screening event based in London, UK.
The night is split into 4 sections to include short film / experimental pieces
/ graphic and animation pieces / audiovisual works, including a live performance
by invited VJ’s visually interpreting music provided by guest a DJ.
Since forming in 2003 4x4 has screened throughout Europe, and is now accepting
submissions from around the world, with a DVD compilation also planned. The
following is a selection of works highlighting the unique diversity of the

Version>05 TLVSN
From April 22 to May 1, Version>05, in cooperation with Chicago Cable Access
channel CAN 21, presents a half hour program of TLVSN: the Version>05 edition.
