On this page I present a general tracking of my professional work since 1990. For brevity's sake I have focused this document on only the most pertinent information.

Here are some highlights of my work:
• Produced over a thousand events and dozens of festivals
• Curator for over 200 exhibitions
• Produced over 160 publications
• Published a dozen music titles
• Produced over fifty experimental tv shows
• Created hundreds of radio programs, dvds webcasts, podcasts etc.
• Own a bottle shop/ awesome bar


I am the the editor, publisher and (most times) creative director of a quarterly culture magazine, Lumpen, and a triannual arts journal, Proximity as well as several other titles.

Since 2002 I have curated, organized and produced the annual Version festival, an interntional arts convergence. I currently am the Co-Director and Founder of the MDW Fair, Chicago's alternative art fair.

In addition, I promote hybrid arts and performance events, as well as other programs in Chicago at The Co-Prosperity Sphere and other venues.

Recently my focus has been on being the Co-Director of Public Media Insitute, a non profit arts organization that facilitates and produces most of the current projects.

I also co-own Maria's Packaged Goods & Community Bar, and U am working on opening a brewery called Marsz Community Brewing.

Proximity is an award wining periodical dedicated to contemporary art and culture. Its mission is to amplify discourse on local and global art ecologies. It serves as a map of artists, collectives and alternative spaces to commercial galleries, museums and universities­as means of connecting and cultivating sustainable creative communities. Proximity also publishs the triannual PR newsletter, Matériel and the (Con)Temporary Art Guide.

NON-PROFIT ARTS ORGANIZATION

Public Media Institute
Director, 2001 to present
I have been the Director of the volunteer-run Non-profit 501 3 (c) tax exmpt arts organization. Many of the festivals and projects listed below were in part produced under the Public Media Institute.

Public Media Institute is a non-profit community-based grass roots arts and culture organization based in Chicago established in 2001. Our mission is to promote art, technology and social activism in order to transform people - socially and intellectually – through the production of festivals, events, exhibitions, community projects, artifacts and through the use of new technology and media.

Programming includes two international annual arts festivals, Version and Select Media Festival, the art fair MDW Fair, and Proximity Magazine, the international arts and culture journal that debuted in April, 2008

Public Media Institute also produces artifacts and showcases emerging and established artists and cultural workers in the communities that they live in. Public Media Institute is committed to engaging the questions of residents of our communities through education, social activism, events and media. Our projects address the conditions in the participants’ lives and the networks that connect them locally and globally.

Co-Prosperity Sphere 2007 - present
The Co-Prosperity Sphere (C-PS) is an experimental cultural center located in Bridgeport, The Community of the Future.
The space is used to showcase work by artists, performers and cultural workers of all stripes. The C-PS hosts exhibitions, screenings, presentations, installations, festivals, meetings, and performance programs in its 5,000+ square foot gallery.

Buddy 2002 - 2005
Opened visual and digital arts gallery and performance space in Chicago to showcase emerging and leading edge work from around the world. Located at 1542 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago.

 

FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
Producer, Director, Curator, Organizer and/or performer in over 1,000 events and festivals in Chicago and around the world. A few highlights below:

MDW Fair 2011 to present
Co-Founder, Co-Director
Formed in spring 2011 as a collaborative project between the Public Media Institute, Roots & Culture and threewalls. The MDW Fair was conceived as a showcase for independent art initiatives, spaces, galleries and artist groups from the Chicago metropolitan area.

Lumpen and various events 1993-present
Produced and curated dozens of events each year that include video projections, film and video screenings, live performances, public interventions, fashion shows, installations, radio broadcasts and/or webcasting. Highlights include: Kriterion Film Festival (Amsterdam), Euro Underground, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Get Easy, Lumptronic, Mk-Ultra-Lounge, Lumpenwave, Hallowave, and Secret Octopus.

Version Festival 2002 to present
Conceived, directed, curated, and organized Chicago's first digital arts convergence/festival/conference. Program includes panels, workshops, technology demonstrations, installations, performances, film and video, presentations, and offsite events. Participants included noted artists and speakers from around the United States as well as Canada, Germany, Japan, and The Netherlands. The festival is now an annual proect faciitating projects and programs of over 350 participants working within the fields of art, music, performance and activism.

Annual festival that features new media, film and video, experimental electronic music, and visual art projects.

Occasional contributer and curator of video programs for this Dutch based media arts festival.

Next 5 Minutes4 2002-2004
Editorial board
Next 5 Minutes 4 is an international tactical media festival that brings together social and political activism, the visual arts, electronic media, and critical theory.

Puerto Rico '02 En Ruta October 2002
Guest curator and speaker
PR '02 [En Ruta] was a Puerto Rican biennial that featured the work of 48 artists and 17 curators in several locations throughout the island. Curated the En Ruta film festival and performances, particpated as guest speaker.

Summer Solstice 2000, 2001, 2002
Co-Director
Curated and produced multimedia arts performance program at Museum of Contemporary Art Summer Solstice festival. Program highlights included DJ sets, short film and video programs, and multimedia performances.

INTERNET AND WEB
Designed, architected, created content for, and produced several web sites including iterations of Lumpen.com and several sites of organisations in Chicago. Also produced and directed the following large scale web sites:

Supersphere.com 1999- 2001
Partner, Founder, Director
Multimedia web site that contained over 2,000 hour-long streaming media files, 40 magazine partners, 6 radio stations, message boards, and guides to alternative lifestyle media products. The site featured live concerts as well as streaming audio and video. It received over 1 milion visitors per month during its hey day. Now defunct; however, survives somehere online as an archive.
