Mechanisms: An instrument or a process, physical or mental, by which
something is done or comes into being
ArtForum critic Peter Plagens recently opined, “irony has seeped
so thoroughly into the pores of young artists that they don't even know
anymore (or if they know, they don't care) that it's irony.
Irony has mutated
in current art into qualities that seem, deceptively, unironic.”
Mechanisms measures the phrase “that the majority of post modern
artists are caricatures of artists” and responds.
Mechanisms is not a détournement of the current the political climate.
It is not about riding the wave of current contemporary art trends. It’s
about the moment when a vision is taking place - as traditional as it gets.
Without publicity for publicity’s sake.
Seven artists from NYC, South Carolina, Minneapolis, and Chicago examine
the term mechanism through multidimensional surfaces.
