CALL FOR WORK
Select Media Festival 3 is seeking shorts, documentaries, net based projects, audio projects, installations, publications, texts, video programs from individual creators and curators, performance and music projects, paintings and works on paper such as posters, stickers, street and agitprop arts of all sorts to share with audiences that will visit our mobile media arts festival. Our festival kicks off mid October in Chicago and a traveling program will circle the globe.

The theme of Select Media Festival 3 is War.Games

Project themes we are currently exploring:
  • Alterations of Everyday Life
  • Fear, Lies and Videotape
  • Perception Management and Technologies of Control
  • Cultural Counterintelligence
The festival components:
  • Performance and music Live art, music programs
    Select Media festival highlights innovative and emerging sound and performance arts.
  • Video and film programs
    Shorts, feature and documentary works screened in theaters, microcinemas and instant outdoor venues.
  • Web Selection (curated by Elisa Harkins of Digital Disobedients)
    Select Media Festival recognizes innovative users/designers and makers using the Web to explore uses of gaming to examine social/political issues.
  • Dissent Factory
    a working laboratory to create works on paper, cloth and other materials to disseminate messages to agitate for the ending of the Bush and Other wars.
  • SMF Radio / streaming and on the air
    Transmissions of audio works and live situations.besides traditional and experimental audio works, we are seeking projects that utilize low watt radio to interact with listeners on the ground for performative purposes.
  • Exhibition
    Works centered around the themes of Alterations of Everday life. War.games and guest curated work.

Select Media Festival is an exploration of international movements in the underground of media, showcasing emerging contemporary artists and innovative forms of media making. The insurgent media festival features video programs, net.works, installations, performance programs, street arts, experimental and advanced music. Video: Moving image Entries may be produced on any film or video format, however they must be submitted on DVD (NTSC only), Mini DV (NTSC only), or VHS (NTSC only). Each film or video must be accompanied by a bio, description and stills. edmar@lumpen.com

SHIPPING
Cost of shipping to the festival is the responsibility of the entrant. Exhibition copies must be sent to the festival prepaid. All film reels, cans, videotapes and cases must be labeled with the title of the entry. The festival will not cover return shipping. Submission videos will not be returned. The festival cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of materials while in transit. Please use only plastic or bubble pack cases when shipping entries.
